Already in his youth, he embarked on the path of a designer, and in 1961 he obtained the title of university graduate civil engineer. He worked in his field until 2003, when he retired. At the age of eight, he started ski jumping, as a national team member for several years, and his greatest success was a two-time student world title. His personal record is 105 m, recorded in his hometown Planica.\n\nFrom an early age, he and his older brother Vlado Gori\u0161ek were passionate about ski jumping, and in 1969 they worked together to build the largest ski flying hill in the world, better known as the Gori\u0161ek Brothers Ski Jump. With it, Vlado and Janez established a new ski discipline - ski flying, and in 1971 it was also recognised by the International Ski Federation. The ski flying hill thus brought Planica's reputation to the world.<\/p>\n
Janez Du\u0161an Gori\u0161ek se je rodil 13. septembra 1933 v Ljubljani. \u017de v svojih mladostni\u0161kih letih se je podal na pot projektanta, leta 1961 pa je pridobil naziv univerzitetnega diplomiranega in\u017eenirja gradbeni\u0161tva. Na svojem podro\u010dju je deloval vse do leta 2003, dokler se ni upokojil. Pri osmih letih se je za\u010del ukvarjati s smu\u010darskimi skoki, kar nekaj let je bil dr\u017eavni reprezentant, najve\u010dji dose\u017een uspeh pa je bil dvakratni naslov \u0161tudentskega svetovnega prvaka. Njegov osebni rekord je 105 m, zabele\u017een v doma\u010di Planici.<\/p>\n
\u017de od ranega otro\u0161tva ju je skupaj s starej\u0161im bratom – Vladom Gori\u0161kom vezala strast do smu\u010darskih skokov, leta 1969 pa sta skupaj sodelovala pri gradnji najve\u010dje letalnice na svetu, ki jo bolje poznamo pod imenom Skakalnica bratov Gori\u0161ek. Z njo sta Vlado in Janez uveljavila novo smu\u010darsko disciplino \u2013 smu\u010darske polete, leta 1971 pa je bila priznana tudi s strani Mednarodne smu\u010darske zveze. Letalnica je tako ponesla sloves Planice v svet.<\/p>\n
Kasneje sta sodelovala tudi pri rekonstrukciji ostalih skakalnic in letalnic doma in tudi drugod po Evropi. Na skakalnicah\/letalnicah, ki sta jih projektirala oz. rekonstruirala skupaj z bratom, je zabele\u017eenih kar 78,3 % vseh svetovnih rekordov. Magi\u010dna meja 250 m je bila prese\u017eena na njuni letalnici v Vikersundu, ni\u010d drugega pa se ne pri\u010dakuje tudi za prvi polet prek 300 m. Kasneje se mu je pri projektiranju zaradi \u017eal prezgodnje smrti brata pridru\u017eil sin Sebastjan, kateri gre po stopinjah uspe\u0161nega o\u010deta.<\/p>\n
V svojem \u017eivljenju je Janez za svoja dela prejel ogromno priznanj, odlikovanj in nagrad, danes pa je tudi \u010dastni \u010dlan komiteja FIS za razvoj smu\u010darskih skokov.<\/p>\n
Janez Gori\u0161ek je o knjigi povedal: “Knjiga govori prakti\u010dno o vsem. To je presek dolgoletnega dela mene, brata in vseh ostalih. Za mene ima knjiga spominsko vrednost, Planica si zaslu\u017ei to knjigo za ljudi, ki so jo gradili. Knjiga je del plani\u0161ke borbe za rekorde in dokaz, kjer se Slovenci lahko poka\u017eemo pred svetom, da nekaj smo. To ni tako enostavno. To smo dokazali v Planici in to nadaljujemo.
